Tour of the Three Refuges

In the heart of the Orsiera Rocciavrè Park, the "Giro dei Tre Rifugi" is a circular route that allows you to travel along ancient mule tracks between mountain settlements made up of typical stone buildings. Each stage can be considered independent, depending on ability and preparation.

The first stage is an easy route for families that leads to Rifugio Amprimo; the second stage is a slightly more demanding walk due to the difference in altitude that leads from the Amprimo refuge to the Toesca refuge, passing through Alpe Balmetta (path 510). The third stage is decidedly more demanding and requires good training: from the Toesca refuge you go up towards Alpe di Mezzo along path 510 and then continue along path 511 up to Porta del Villano at an altitude of 2507 m. From here you descend, passing by Lago Rosso, to the Geat Val Gravio refuge, at an altitude of 1376 m. The last stage is a pleasant and easy walk from the Val Gravio refuge, passing through Travers da Mont,  to the starting point at Frog Paradise.

Length: 18 km. - Altitude difference: 1330 m. Travel time: 7/8 hours

Borgone di Susa - Roca Furà

10 minute drive from Loft 29

In Borgone di Susa, a few Km. from Bussoleno, you can find several well-marked routes that pass through woods rich in legends, abandoned villages, ancient uncultivated vineyards and evidence of ancient crafts. One of these is a route that leads to Roca Furà, a cave whose climb is considered EE due to the presence of some via ferrata rungs and the sandy terrain which is unstable at times; we therefore recommend it to those who already have experience with more cryptic mountain passages. The peculiarity of the cave is its heart-shaped entrance, while inside all its walls you can see the streaks left by the stonecutters' work. The climb can however be avoided by continuing on the path that leads to Roca Bruna, an ancient village abandoned by which offers a beautiful view of the valley.

Rocciamelone (3538 m)

50 minute drive from Loft 29

Rocciamelone is the excursion in Val Susa for excellence. The climb to Rocciamelone is something unique. In fact, there are few excursions that allow you to reach a peak of 3538 meters without too many technical difficulties. Of course you have to be aware that we are in a high mountain environment but this is a trek suitable for all hikers as long as they are sufficiently trained. The simplest and most well-known route is the one that starts from the car park under the "La Riposa" refuge at an altitude of 2050 metres. From Loft 29 to the start of the trek it takes 50 minutes by car (25 km). Pay attention to the last kilometers of the road because they are dirt and rather bumpy.

Trekking length 10 km. Round trip - Difference in altitude: 1488 m.

Climb time 3/4 hours.

The Via Francigena

The Via Francigena allows you to contemplate wonderful landscapes step by step, following the mountain mule tracks, dirt roads or cycle paths  from the valley floor, retracing the steps of the many pilgrims who preceded us. It is possible to undertake these itineraries either on foot or by bike, with more or less demanding sections, for over 170 km. The Via Francigena Marathon, a 42 km walk, also takes place every year. from Avigliana to Susa. On Wikiloc you can find the route that can also be followed by avoiding the most demanding climb of the Sacra di San Michele, passing at the bottom of the valley.
